In Memoriam: A Moment of Silence - Haiti Earthquake 12 Jan 2010

Today marks the first year anniversary of a tragic loss of our friends, family, loved ones and an insurmountable number of others who we may not recognise but would still wish to commemorate.

That the memory of the efforts and contributions of our colleagues who perished on that fateful day may spur us on to continue supporting Haiti in its tumultuous struggles to rise from the ashes, we invite you all to observe a brief moment of silence at 1700 hours (5 pm) SDQ time.

In the words of MINUSTAH SRSG Edmond Mulet: " While honouring the dead, also honour the living because the challenges ahead are still enormous."

Haiti: Contrôleurs financiers dans les mairies - état des lieux

Published in MINUSTAH.ORG Depuis juin 2007, des contrôleurs financiers sont à pied d'oeuvre sur l'ensemble du territoire haïtien. Leur mission : fournir un encadrement technique aux mairies, notamment dans le domaine de la comptabilité et des finances publiques. Etat des lieux après un trimestre de collaboration entre ces responsables de collectivités territoriales et les fonctionnaires du pouvoir central. Déployés depuis environ trois mois sur l'ensemble du territoire, les 58 contrôleurs financiers et les 10 coordonnateurs départementaux ont pour tâche d'assister les mairies dans la préparation de projets de budget afin qu'elles puissent les soumettre au pouvoir central, au plus tard le 15 septembre 2007. Entre autres activités, ils ont à établir un diagnostic de la situation actuelle de la comptabilité et des finances publiques des mairies, assister les caissiers-payeurs, s'assurer que les taxes perçues sont intégralement déposées à la banque, et que les écrit...

We've all talked for many years about how Post Conflict Reconstruction could, and should, be done better. We've now decided to act. The State Building Association has developed into Post Conflict People. We have a website - http://www.postconflictpeople.org/ - and are now ready to start projects. Please have a look at the site and if you agree it is a worthwhile venture register on it. Any thoughts of any description will be most welcome. There will be an official launch in December 2007.
